Обязательство, которое, как предполагается на дату составления баланса, может возникнуть при наступлении определенного события. Типичными примерами таких обязательств являются незавершенное рассмотрение дела против компании в суде, исход которого представляется неопределенным, или потеря доходов в результате того, что клиент потребует наложения штрафных санкций, предусмотренных в контракте за несвоевременное выполнение контрактах обязательств. По Закону о компаниях (1985 г.) такие обязательства должны разъясняться в примечании к балансу компании.
